Southland Steel offers our customers a quality product that cannot be matched in the industry. We strive for 100% accuracy and every piece produced is checked several times by quality control throughout the fabrication process. Our quality control manager is certified to AWS, D1.1 standards and has over 25 years experience in the industry. We currently have five employees dedicated to quality control. All of our major equipment is CNC controlled with accuracy + or – 1/32” electronically and we fabricate to tolerances of no greater than 1/8”. We remain competitive thru continually searching for the most cost effective process to fabricate structural steel and we remain lean and aggressive in our overhead operations.

 

Our owner Joe Lombardo started a structural steel detailing company in 1989. Joe currently has 50% ownership in the detailing firm which is located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Like Southland, they are on the cutting edge of the structural steel industry. They utilize SDS/2 detailing software which is a 3-D modeling software that supports all connections mathematically. We offer our customers 3-D virtual tours of their structures via the internet. Only a handful of fabricators in the country offer this service. For an additional cost we can put a Southland representative onsite checking in the steel and maintaining a 3-D model onsite, graphically representing what is fabricated, delivered, and erected. The structures can be color coded for what is detailed, fabricated, galvanized, delivered and erected.

 

All engineering, approval and shop drawings can be submitted electronically via the internet. Approval drawings can be submitted in tif, plot or pdf formats. On fast track projects this electronic ability ultimately saves time and money. We can also receive and print engineering drawings in AutoCad format. Once detailing has started we can issue the owner, engineer and contractor with a username and password which allows them to track detailing progress via the internet utilizing the 3-D model.

 

Southland Steel Fabricators, Inc produces high quality fabrication at very competitive prices. Our field error rate is extremely small compared to industry standards. This is confirmed by the customers we serve and the erectors who install our steel. We usually have less than one recordable field error for every thousand piece marks shipped. We continually strive for zero field errors!
